Facial Recognition

Facial recognition is a biometric technology used for authentication and identification of individuals by comparing facial features from an image with the stored facial database. This method is typically used in security systems and can be compared to other biometrics such as fingerprint or eye iris recognition systems. Facial recognition technology is known for its non-contact process which captures data from a distance without interacting with the individuals, thereby making it one of the most preferred biometric techniques.

How Facial Recognition works

Facial recognition technology works by capturing, analyzing, and comparing patterns based on the person's facial details. The process starts with a picture being taken of your face, often from a video frame or digital photograph. Then, facial recognition software reads the geometry of your face — key factors could include the distance between your eyes and the distance from forehead to chin.

A facial recognition system uses biometrics to map facial features from the photo or video. It compares the information with the database of known faces to find a match. Biometric data gathering and pattern recognition help in distinguishing and identifying human faces effectively. This technology can be used in various conditions and be applied on either static images or video sources, making it a versatile and robust option for recognizing human faces.

It's important to note that the accuracy of facial recognition can be impacted by changes in lighting, the person's expression (such as whether they're smiling or not), their age, and the angle at which the photo is taken.
